Chimera in dynamical networks of nonlinear systems

supported by Deutschen Akademischen Austauchdienst (DAAD) [1]

Our main objective is to study which topologies and local dynamics allow for chimera states in different system heterogeneity scenarios. Chimera states exhibit a hybrid spatial structure of both coherence and incoherence, i.e., a network of dynamical elements splits into domains of distinctly different behavior: one coherent and phase locked and the other incoherent and desynchronized

We will investigate the existence of these states for different local dynamics and various network topologies with nonlocal coupling. We aim to understand the mechanism that gives rise to chimera states by means of numerical modeling, complemented with analytical studies performed by the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (Dr. Astero Provata [2]) as well as the University of Patras (Prof. Tassos Bountis [3]).
