The seminar offers perspectives on our current research in the field of Nonlinear Dynamics in Complex Networks. The seminar is particularly suitable for BSc and MSc students looking for a final project. Students, who want to obtain a Seminarschein, are welcome as well.

Nonlinear dynamical models, even in a purely deterministic form, can reproduce a variety of real-world observations. However, a realistic description of complex systems and networks requires the nonlinear models to account for random fluctuations, i.e., noise. Arising naturally in biological and technological systems, noise can significantly influence the dynamics and induce new regimes. Aiming an overview of this subject, in the seminar, we address the central question of how stochastic fluctuations interact with the features of nonlinear deterministic systems and produce an abundance of exclusive phenomena. For that, the proposed topics cover the state-of-the-art research in the field by approaching multidisciplinary concepts such as coherence and stochastic resonance in complex networks, noise-induced synchronization and desynchronization in networks, the interplay between noise and network coupling. Besides, we also provide more specific topics such as stimulus classification in networks of noisy Hodgkin-Huxley neurons and autapse-induced coherence resonance in neuronal networks.
