Spreading speed revisited - a free boundary approach

The spreading of invasive species is traditionally modeled by the Cauchy problem of reaction-diffusion equations, where the speed of certain traveling wave solutions determines the spreading speed of the invasive species. In such models the spreading front is represented by some unspecified level curves of the solution. In this talk, I'll describe a new modified approach, where the spreading front is represented by a free boundary of the reaction-diffusion equations.
