Swimming active emulsion droplets

Abstract:

In recent experiments artificial swimmers were manufactured by placing bromine water droplets into oil. Our aim is to understand the underlying mechanism that leads to a fluid flow around such droplets. As a first model we motivate a reaction-advection-diffusion equation on the droplet surface and analyze it by means of numerical calculations.
