Theoretical Physics with Focus on Complex Fluids

Research

Our area of research is statistical physics of soft condensed matter, particularly colloidal suspensions, active systems, liquid crystals, and complex fluid mixtures.

Current foci of our research are:

  • Phase transitions and non-equilibrium collective dynamics in external fields
  • Transport in colloidal systems
  • Self-assembly and self-organization
  • Nucleation and growth
  • Active fluids
  • Stochastic thermodynamics
  • Non-equilibrium systems under feedback control
  • Confinement effects

We employ a spectrum of theoretical and numerical methods such as particle-based computer simulations, classical density functional theory, Langevin- and Fokker-Planck equations, coarse-graining strategies, continuum equations and tools from nonlinear dynamics.
